3 more reasons your SSD claim could be denied

Social Security Disability (SSD) can be a much-needed lifeline for individuals who are no longer able to work due to illness. Unfortunately, getting your SSD benefits when you need them most can be a huge challenge.

Knowing the common reasons why the Social Security Administration (SSA) declines claims can help you put forth a strong claim or successfully appeal a denial. Here are some of the common reasons why the SSA may deny your claim.

Failure to meet the non-medical requirements

SSA will not review your medical records if you do not meet their basic eligibility requirements. You will get a technical denial if you do not have sufficient work credit or if your earning is above the “substantial gainful activity limit.” Your claim will also be denied if you do not comply with key requirements such as providing information about your earning. Failure to disclose your doctor visits will also result in a denial.

If your medical condition is not severe enough

To be eligible for an SSD claim, the illness you are suffering from must be so severe as to keep you from working for no less than 12 months. The SSA will deny your claim if it establishes that your condition is likely to improve within a year or if it believes that your condition is not severe enough to justify your claim.

Even if your medical condition is acknowledged by SSA, your claim may be denied if the agency believes your condition does not hinder you from doing your work. Keep in mind that SSA defines disability as being “unable to get a substantial or gainful employment.”

Failing to follow through with your treatment plan

SSA will deem your failure to follow your doctor’s treatment plan as not making effort to get better. This will result in your claim’s denial. If the SSA believes that you are not making effort to improve your health, because you are not taking your doctor’s treatment plan seriously, you will have a tough time getting your claim approved.

Social Security Disability can help you get the financial support you need when you are no longer able to work. However, it is important that you submit an application that meets the necessary requirements so you can get the desired outcome for your claim.
